Turmeric Milk aka Golden Milk, Benefits and an easy recipe

Turmeric Milk or Haldi Doodh, more popularly known as Golden milk or even the fancier Turmeric Latte , has recently gained popularity in the west, however it has been a cure-all concoction since ages in the Indian subcontinent. Whenever the weather got chilly or you had a fever or caught a cold, Turmeric milk was given before bedtime. Usually ginger, honey and some warming spices like cloves, cinnamon and black pepper are also added for extra benefits. Turmeric milk is  anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, soothing to the throat and may help clear up the lungs as well. 
Apart from being a cold weather remedy, turmeric milk also has other benefits when consumed regularly. Turmeric is said to be good for the heart, joints and help improve immunity. Some studies have also said that it can help with arthritis, since its anti-inflammatory. There are certain claims which say that it helps prevent Cancer, and Alzheimers, but there are no specific studies related to that. If you haven't tried Turmeric milk, this cold weather is the perfect time to try it and make it a regular part of your life.

Here is a quick and easy recipe for Turmeric Milk
2 cups whole milk (or any other plant based milk)
1 inch stick of Cinnamon, or 1/4 tsp Cinnamon powder
2 Green cardamom pods, gently crushed
3 cloves
4 black peppercorns
1 inch piece of fresh turmeric root grated or 3/4 teaspoon of Turmeric powder
1/2 inch piece of sliced ginger
Optional - 1 tablespoon honey, or sweetener of your choice
Method
Put all the ingredients in a saucepan and heat on medium until it starts to boil.
Let it simmer on low heat for 4-5 mins. Turn off the heat and add sweetener if desired. 
Strain and enjoy while warm.
